1 out of 5 stars Junk, at any price...   December 3, 2008

I have over 2 dozen installed just under 2 years. More than half are suffering some kind of failure. Most have the plastic stake broken. Some have the middle plastic "joint" sheared. Several more have the third "tier" broken off. Several more have electrical connector failures.

The stake failure was so bad, I actually bought replacement stakes (6 for $9!) direct from Intermatic. Their current exploded parts drawing had a different ID, than the one supplied WITH THE ACTUAL PRODUCT. We had to work our way through that issue as well. The charged me, refusing to accept that the plastic is too brittle, thus under warranty. As I re-installed 2 of the 6 replacement stakes, they too sheared off! Brand new parts that failed.

I purchased these to replace the ultra cheap plastic Toro lights I had. They lasted over 15 years, and the only thing that ever failed was the clear plastic lenses over the bulbs. They degraded from ozone/UV and cracked/shattered. I should have simply bought new lenses from Toro.

All that I currently own (I have already thrown at least 3 away)are going back to Home Depot for full credit. Avoid the pain of a return! Incidentally, I live in far Eastern LA, so this isn't a case of hard soil or even harder winters... They are simply JUNK! If I could, I would have given a ZERO STAR rating...

5 out of 5 stars Malibu yard light system   April 7, 2008

I have had the Malibu landscape ligting system for over 5 years and have had no trouble with it. It gets rained on, snowed on, tree/ground debris dumped on and keeps on working. I have a 600 watt timer transformer operating a front yard zone and back yard zone of lights. Most fixtures are the three tier, 7 watt type with a few 50 watt, flood light types aimed at trees. They go on and off each night reliably. I have added and removed and relocated fixtures with no trouble. They are mostly plastic but have held up remarkably well. They shine light better than the solar lights althought they do require wire and electric.

2 out of 5 stars Low grade product   July 18, 2007

I have had terrible luck with my entire Malibu system. These lights are made mostly of plastic, break easily, and are a general pain.
